The Mayday Run is a yearly motorcycle event in England that takes place on the first bank holiday Monday in May. The event involves thousands of motorbikes taking a 55-mile (89 km) trip on the A21 road from Locksbottom, Kent to Hastings, Sussex seafront. The Mayday run has been taking place for over 40 years now and has grown a massive interest from around the country from bikers and non-bikers.
The first run took place in 1979 and the event has continued every year since.
The event is organized by bikers alone and has no real official organization. The police attend and manage the traffic on the day of the run and volunteers manage the parking. The ancient town of Hastings fills up with bikes by about 11am and the main A21 road from London serving Kent and the South coast is the road which is used for the route. This route is very busy when the run takes place as thousands of bikers decend on Sussex and Hastings becomes a biker town for the day.
